Artists Republic is proud to host Los Angeles artist Jillian Evelyn for her first solo exhibition with the gallery. “Solitary” features eight new paintings and a 6 foot by 6 foot installation of acrylic on wood panel.
“The body of work consists of full figures mixed with abstract shapes and elements. There is less “attitude” and more focus on paralyzing feelings. The characters are caught in a abstract headspace of uncomfortable feelings which is why they’re usually in forced in to these awkward positions. I also approach each piece with design and balance in mind. I really enjoy breaking the imagery down in to shapes and figuring out the best ways for them to interact with the shape of the canvas.”
The opening for “Solitary” coincides with the End of Summer Bash, Saturday, August 26.
Jillian Evelyn is an Los Angeles – based artist who studied Illustration at College for Creative Studies in Detroit. She creates her moody characters with a mix of acrylic and latex paint. Her work has been featured by VICE creators project and Naked Magazine.
