Artists Republic 4 Tomorrow is proud to showcase works from photographer Angela Boatwright in her first solo exhibition in California.
The show titled Pit Mischief is a selection of images from Angela’s passion project – the raw and uncompromised energy captured in punk and hardcore mosh pits. The exquisite works were carefully selected from images taken at different venues across America. The photographs are both literal and figurative. They vary from the common massive pit to the personal – the living room of a life-long Suicidal Tendencies fan, and speak about how each pit and each personality within the pit has a unique identity all it’s own. Pit Mischief allows us to view details from a lifestyle seemingly chaotic on the surface but beautiful in the details. The people showcased in the images are young, alive and delirious with energy. They are exactly who they want to be. Pit Mischief represents an idealism of character and a lightning bolt in time.
About the Artist:
Throughout the early ’90s Angela Boatwright was a growing presence within the New York skate community and at underground hardcore shows. In the past fourteen years she’s photographed countless celebrities and bands, such as Black Crowes, Interpol, Shephard Fairey, Andrew WK, Method Man, Ellen Page, and Juliette Lewis. Her photography has been featured in numerous magazines, campaigns, and art books, such as Monster Children, New York magazine, Spin, Nylon, Vibe, Dazed and Confused, Vice Photo Book, and Definition: The Art and Design of Hip Hop. In 2014 she completed a documentary film project with Vans titled East Los, and is currently working on a full length documentary film with the Dogtown Z Boys production team about the backyard punk scene in South Central and East LA.
